God is good.
The other weekend when I visited YS in Houston, his pastor spoke on Ephesians 1:7:
“In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace…”
He shed light on Paul’s use of the phrase “according to”, rather than “out of”. We humans, as sinners, don’t deserve anything better than hell. But God chose to extend his free gift of salvation to us. And not only did he give us just a little bit of what he had, “out of” the riches of his grace; but he chooses to lavish all of his grace, “according to” the riches of his grace, on those who will believe in him.
That he saved my fiance’s life in yesterday’s car accident was a miracle and testament to his grace.
That he chose to bless us with the opportunity to serve each other in marriage, and to catch a better glimpse of the infinite love and tenderness with which Christ has called us to him, is a testament to his grace.
That I am sitting here editing his job application essays and thinking about where my stomach virus might have come from, as if nothing happened yesterday, is a testament to his grace.
God is so real and so loving and so patient. We are so blessed to be His.
28And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. Rom 8:28
All things. Wrestling with this today. Trying to conjure up reasons to explain the workings of Almighty God. Isn’t that silly?
Spoke with another friend two…
